Penile implant cost in Busan — malleable vs inflatable, and what the hospital stay adds.

Two published figures — malleable from ₩8,200,000, three-piece inflatable from ₩15,000,000 — and a short list of things that move them. This guide from Urogyn, Busan Seomyeon, sets out the device, anaesthesia, hospital stay and tests so that the number you see is the number you pay.

What readers ask before they message us
  1. Why is the inflatable almost twice the price of the malleable?
  2. Does the figure include the hospital nights and the anaesthetist?
  3. Can I skip straight to an implant if tablets failed me years ago?
  4. What brand of implant is it, and can I see it beforehand?
  5. If the pump fails in ten years, what does that cost?

Each is answered below, in the order the surgeon at our Seomyeon clinic would go through it with you.

The short answer: what a penile implant costs in Busan

At Urogyn in Busan Seomyeon a malleable penile implant is listed from ₩8,200,000 and a three-piece inflatable implant from ₩15,000,000. Both figures cover the device, surgery, general anaesthesia and the hospital stay — one night for malleable, two to three for inflatable. The ₩400,000 erectile assessment that confirms you are a candidate is separate, because most men who have it do not go on to an implant.

The gap between the two figures is almost entirely the device. A malleable implant is a pair of bendable rods; an inflatable implant is a hydraulic system with cylinders, a pump and a reservoir, and its price reflects that. Everything else — the surgeon, the theatre, the follow-up — is shared. What follows explains each line and the few things that would make your figure different.

Malleable implant
from ₩8,200,000

Bendable rods. Simplest mechanism, lowest mechanical failure rate. One night in hospital.

Three-piece inflatable
from ₩15,000,000

Cylinders, pump and reservoir. Most natural flaccid and erect state. Two to three nights.

Erectile assessment
₩400,000

First visit with injection response test. Decides whether an implant is the right step at all.

Why the implant is the last step on the ladder — and what that saves

An implant is irreversible: once the erectile tissue is replaced, medication and shockwave no longer apply. That is why at our Busan clinic it is only offered to men in whom the lower steps have been tried properly and failed, or in whom the assessment shows they cannot work. For most men with erectile dysfunction the cheapest effective treatment is a correctly dosed tablet, and the medication page explains how dosing is done. For vascular cases, shockwave therapy comes before any surgery.

This matters for budgeting because the ₩400,000 assessment regularly ends with a prescription rather than a ₩15,000,000 operation. The ED hub sets out the ladder; the pills vs Trimix vs shockwave guide covers the steps that come first.

If you have already been through the ladder abroad, bring the records. We do not repeat steps that have been documented properly; we confirm the current state with the assessment and move to the implant discussion.

The device: where the gap between ₩8,200,000 and ₩15,000,000 comes from

A malleable implant is two silicone-covered rods with a bendable core, positioned in the erectile bodies. The penis is always firm enough for intercourse and is bent downward to conceal. A three-piece inflatable implant has two cylinders in the same position, a pump in the scrotum and a fluid reservoir in the lower abdomen; squeezing the pump fills the cylinders for an erection, and a release valve returns the penis to a soft, natural state. Our inflatable vs malleable comparison goes through the trade-offs in daily life.

Urogyn uses implants from established manufacturers with MFDS approval in Korea, and shows you the device and its documentation before surgery. The published "from" figures are for the standard models; a specific model request, or an unusual size, can change the device cost, and we quote that before booking rather than on the day.

  • 1 Malleable. No moving parts to fail. Mechanical failure well under 1% at 10 years. Fixed firmness; concealment takes some habit.
  • 2 Inflatable. Natural soft and erect states. Mechanical revision roughly 5–10% at 10 years; a pump to learn.

General anaesthesia and the hospital stay — included, and why

Both implants are placed under general anaesthesia at our Seomyeon clinic, and both figures include it, along with the anaesthetist, the recovery room and the inpatient nights: one for a malleable implant, two to three for an inflatable one. The stay is included because it is not optional. A drain, a catheter overnight and the first dressing change all happen while you are here, and early infection control is the single most important factor in implant surgery. Our guide to how anaesthesia is chosen explains the pre-operative checks.

Meals during the stay are included. A companion staying overnight in the room is possible and is arranged at consultation.

Tests that are listed separately — and why

Three items are not inside the implant figure. The ₩400,000 erectile assessment, because it is a decision point, not part of the operation. The ₩200,000 vascular ultrasound, when the assessment needs it to confirm the diagnosis. And the comprehensive blood test(₩200,000, or ₩100,000 alongside other tests) required before general anaesthesia. Men with diabetes or on anticoagulants may need additional checks, which we specify in writing. Everything is on the full price list; nothing is added on the day without your agreement.

Comparing quotes: what is not the saving it looks like

When men compare implant prices between countries, three things are often missing from the lower quote: the device brand and model, the anaesthesia and inpatient nights, and the revision policy. A figure that excludes the hospital stay can look cheaper by a third. A figure for an unnamed device cannot be compared at all. Urogyn's price includes all of these, and our guide on Korea versus Thailand and Turkey walks through the comparison honestly, including where Korea is not the cheapest option.

Revision. Mechanical failure of an inflatable device years later is a new operation, with the device cost again. We say this before surgery rather than after, and it is one reason some men choose malleable.

Questions to ask any clinic before you pay

Implant quotes vary more between clinics than almost any other men's procedure, so ask the same five questions everywhere. Which device and model, by name? Is general anaesthesia and the anaesthetist included? How many inpatient nights, and are they in the price? What is the surgeon's revision and infection protocol? And will the surgeon who consults you also operate and see you afterwards? At Urogyn in Busan the answers are written into the quotation before you book. Our guide on who performs your procedure and the sterilisation standards page cover the last two in detail.

Fitting implant surgery into a Busan trip

Plan around ten days in Busan. Assessment and consultation on arrival, surgery within a day or two, the inpatient nights at our Seomyeon clinic, then a hotel nearby until the wound check at about a week. Flying home is usually reasonable after seven to ten days. Inflatable device activation and teaching happens at about six weeks, which for international patients we do by video with a written guide. Our implant recovery guide gives the full six-week timeline.

How it runs at our Busan Seomyeon clinic — and your next step

Message us with what you have already tried — tablets, injections, shockwave — your medical history, especially diabetes and heart medication, and your travel window. We reply in writing with whether an implant is the realistic next step, which type we would lean toward and why, and the exact figure including the stay. Nothing is booked until you confirm, and no deposit is taken. The clinic is one minute from Seomyeon Station exit 7; the contact page has directions.

Two more questions we hear on the day
  1. Will the implant change my length? An implant restores rigidity, not length. Many men notice the erect length is slightly shorter than their best erections years earlier; we measure and discuss this before surgery, because it is the commonest source of disappointment.
  2. Is the surgery covered by any insurance? In Korea, penile implant surgery for erectile dysfunction is not covered by national insurance for international patients. We issue itemised documents in English for private insurers, but reimbursement depends on your policy.

Yes. One night for a malleable implant and two to three for an inflatable, with meals, the catheter, drain removal and first dressing change. Infection control in the first days is the most important part of implant surgery, so the stay is not optional.
Only if the lower steps have been properly tried or the assessment shows they cannot work. Bring records of previous treatment; documented steps are not repeated. Many men who come asking about an implant leave with correctly dosed medication instead.
Devices from established manufacturers with MFDS approval in Korea. You see the device and its documentation before surgery. The published figures are for standard models; a specific model or unusual size is quoted before booking.
About ten days: assessment, surgery, the inpatient nights, and a hotel in Seomyeon until the wound check at a week. Inflatable activation at six weeks is done by video for international patients.
Three things: that it restores your previous length, that the device never needs revision, and that infection risk is zero. Realistic expectations are reliable rigidity for intercourse, a small but real mechanical failure rate over years for inflatables, and infection risk kept low by the inpatient protocol.
